GRATITUDE, THE GIFT

“For He would offer you the thanks you give, since He receives your gifts in loving gratitude, and gives them back a thousand and a hundred thousand more than they were given. He will bless your gifts by sharing them with you. And so they grow in power and in strength, until they fill the world with gladness and with gratitude.” A Course In Miracles

“I will be grateful for everything today.”

There are some things it is difficult to be grateful for.  A challenging relationship, the loss of a job, too much grass to mow, an illness.  And yet each and every experience is here to teach us something. In this sense gratitude for everything is appropriate and even helpful because it opens our mind to another way of thinking. It also offers us the opportunity to grow past each lesson, bringing us closer to peace and healing. When we are grateful, we open our minds and hearts to a higher place within us. Instead of letting fear be in control of our lives, now love is in control.  Love makes everything easier and gentler and clearer.

It is easy to be grateful for a beautiful sunset, hummingbirds in the flower bed, a perfect rose, a laughing baby, the gentle lapping of an ocean wave across our toes.  But now let’s try to  be grateful for the guy who cuts us off in traffic, the boss who doesn’t appreciate us, the co-worker who gossips about us, the spouse who doesn’t understand, the bickering children and the giant pot hole we didn’t see until too late. If we can be grateful for these things, our life will change, moving quickly toward healing and happiness. Before long we will see everything as an opportunity for forgiveness and new thinking.  Then we will get it as we realize that no matter what is happening around us we can still be at peace.

“Love is the way I walk in gratitude.” A Course In Miracles

Don’t forget to breathe and remember, the challenges don’t come from God. The Peace does.

“All things are lessons God would have me learn.”  A Course In Miracles
